How the levels work here

South Dakota's rated ladder is 10U, 12U and 14U: A, B and C at the first two ages, A and B at 14U. There are no 16U or 18U youth divisions in our data. The oldest boys and girls hockey in the state is club-run high school varsity and JV, which is not priced here. The only AA-labelled teams in our data are Team South Dakota's. The AAA row is Sioux Falls Power, whose Tier 1 Elite Hockey League divisions are 14U, 15O, 16U and 18U.

  • Registration is a minority of every South Dakota season priced here: about $1,675 of a $4,675 A season at 10U, $3,950 of a $10,925 AA season at 12U, and $8,625 of a $21,000 AAA season at 14U.
  • Tournament travel is the line that grows instead, from $509 at 10U A to $3,048 at 12U AA and $6,693 at 14U AAA.
  • The AAA number is a travel number by construction, because Sioux Falls Power is the only South Dakota club in the Tier 1 Elite Hockey League and every other member club the league lists is in Missouri, Arizona, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Wisconsin, California, Michigan, Colorado, Illinois, Tennessee, New York, Washington D.C., New Jersey or North Carolina.
  • Local travel of $302 and rink life of $532 are the same two lines in every South Dakota scenario from 10U up, and together they come to more than a 10U House registration of $650.
  • We hold no published registration fee for any South Dakota club, so the association's own number has to come from the association.

  • The InSports Foundation takes applications from Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin families, caps a request at $500, and says its scholarship committee reviews applications monthly and responds by the first part of the following month.
  • In Watertown, the Watertown Laker Foundation runs a grant application for the Watertown Hockey Association and posts a scholarship application deadline of August 31, 2026, without publishing an amount, so ask what it covers.
  • Ask your own association about its scholarship fund, goalie pricing and payment plans before assuming you pay full price, because no South Dakota club publishes a fee in our data.
  • At 10U and 12U the same club usually carries A, B and C teams, and the level a player lands at moves the bill: our 10U ranges are $2,500-$5,150 at B against $3,000-$6,400 at A.

Hockey in South Dakota

Your child's team will have a letter: House, B, A, AA or AAA. That letter is the row to read in the table above. The boys ladder parents see is SDAHA 10U, 12U and 14U: A, B and C at 10U and 12U, A and B at 14U. Sixty-two of the state's 115 rated teams carry one of those labels. Another nine are the single SDAHA Girls 14U division, one team per club. Above 14U the label changes to high school, with 31 rated varsity and JV teams carried by the same clubs. The table is our estimate of a full season.

Sioux Falls holds the most of it. The Sioux Falls Flyers ice East and West high school teams alongside 10U through 14U A and B sides. Sioux Falls Power is the state's only Tier 1 club, with 14U, 15O, 16U and 18U teams in the Tier 1 Elite Hockey League. That is the AAA row. Team South Dakota, SDAHA's own program, is rated at 14U, 16U and 18U for boys and 12U, 14U, 16U and 19U for girls. Rapid City has the Rushmore Thunder, Aberdeen the Cougars, Watertown the Lakers and Brookings the Rangers. Each of those four fields a full set from 10U to high school.
